Barış EKDI graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences in 1997 and embarked on his career as an Assistant Competition Expert at the Turkish Competition Authority, which was established in the same year.
Throughout his career, Barış Ekdi held several notable positions, including Competition Expert, Senior Competition Expert, Director of Training, and Head of the 5th Audit and Enforcement Department. During his tenure, he successfully managed a wide range of competition law investigations across diverse sectors and took part in drafting regulatory proposals. His expertise led him to represent Turkey in prestigious international organizations such as the World Trade Organization (WTO), the European Union, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the International Competition Network (ICN).
From 2008 to 2009, he served as an Advisor to the Minister at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, where he coordinated the various work streams among the bureaucracy, academia, businesses, and NGOs during the preparations for Turkey’s Industrial Strategy. He also developed methodologies and designed the Entrepreneurship Information System to support sound policymaking.
In early 2013, he transitioned to the private sector and became the Government Relations Manager at Philip Morris Int. He currently holds the Chief Regulatory Officer position, specializing in ensuring compliance with regulations in a privately owned company operating in multiple countries and industries.
Baris Ekdi holds an LL.M. degree from Cambridge University (UK) Law Faculty and an MBA degree from Ankara University and continued PhD studies in the Science and Technology Policies Program of the Middle East Technical University.
Baris is a Certified Corporate Ethics Professional (CCEP-I), and a member of the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics. He is also a member of and holds the Governance Risk and Compliance Professional (GRCP) certification from Open Compliance & Ethics Group; as well as having several seminars and training certificates from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), World Trade Organization (WTO), College of Europe (Bruges), City University (London), on various topics.
His expertise extends beyond his professional roles. From 2011 to 2015, he shared his knowledge as a lecturer at Bilkent University. He taught “Media Law and Economics” in the public and economic law master’s program and “Competition Law” in the MBA program for executives. He has also made notable contributions to the field through his published works, including one book, several book chapters, two theses and various articles and essays focused on competition law.
Baris is interested in prose and poetry and is a prize-winning author. He received the Orhan Kemal Story Award in 2010, with “Yazı” (the Tale of the Tail), his short-story book.
